Physical chemistry is the branch of chemistry that is concerned with the application of physics to chemical systems. It is the chemistry of radioactive elements such as the radium, actinides and radon together with the chemistry associated with equipments such as nuclear reactors which are specially designed to perform nuclear processes. Brook Hartman is the Professor of Chemistry at the department of Science and Engineering. He received his Ph.D. under the supervision of Helmut Schwarz. His research interests include computational chemistry of new high energy materials, matrix isolation spectroscopy, and various topics in chemical education. He has over 120 publications, equally split between research articles and educational articles, including five books currently in print. He has authored more than 150 publications and co-edited several books on Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Organic reaction mechanism, mass spectrometry, and template synthesis.
